A young woman journeys through time to revisit pivotal moments in her family's past.
DOT'S HOME is a single-player, 2D narrative video game featuring a young Black woman in Detroit residing in her grandmother's cherished home. Through time travel, she relives crucial family experiences where race, home, and place intersect through impactful decisions.
As an interactive narrative, DOT'S HOME lets players witness how systemic forces shape our connections to race and place from the perspective of those most affected. By placing players in scenarios where they must decide how and where to live amid redlining, urban renewal, and gentrification, it raises an essential question: "How did your family arrive where they are today, and what degree of choice did they truly have along the way?"
DOT'S HOME is produced by the Rise-Home Stories project—a creative collaboration between multimedia storytellers and housing/land justice advocates. Over three years, this partnership has worked to reshape our communities' past, present, and future by transforming how we share their stories.
