In a different but equally gripping tale, a famous musician, embroiled in a bitter contract dispute with his publisher, is found dead under mysterious circumstances. The official verdict is an overdose, but his best friend, who knew him to be drug-free, refuses to accept this narrative and launches his own investigation.

The friend's search leads him to a bottle of gold sodium thiomalate, a rare arthritis medication, found near the body of their deceased dog. The symptoms described in the musician's autopsy report align perfectly with poisoning from this drug. Suspicion grows when the friend notices the musician's brother, a lesser-known singer with arthritis, always wearing gloves.

Piecing together the clues, the friend deduces that the brother, resentful of living in his sibling's shadow, is the culprit. The investigation transforms into a psychological journey into the mind of a killer, filled with puzzles and obstacles that the friend must overcome.

In a bold move to expose the truth, the friend infiltrates a concert and laces the brother's gloves with stannous chloride. On stage, the confrontation leads to the brother's purple hands being revealed, confirming his guilt.
