Cronos: The New Dawn Launches September 5, 2025, on Nintendo Switch 2 and All Major Platforms
In a chilling revelation during today’s July 2025 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, Bloober Team has officially confirmed that Cronos: The New Dawn will launch on September 5, 2025, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2—with simultaneous releases on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The announcement marks a pivotal moment for the studio, best known for its acclaimed remakes of Silent Hill 2 and The Medium, as it ventures into original horror territory with a bold new franchise. The game’s reveal was accompanied by a brand-new trailer showcasing the full scope of Cronos: The New Dawn in action on the Nintendo Switch 2, highlighting its atmospheric dread, time-bending mechanics, and visceral survival gameplay.
Set across fractured timelines spanning past and future, Cronos: The New Dawn follows The Traveler, an enigmatic figure caught in a cycle of decay and rebirth. The trailer immerses players in haunting environments—from ruins of forgotten civilizations to a post-apocalyptic wasteland where humanity's remnants have twisted into grotesque, bio-organic horrors.
Key gameplay features highlighted in the new footage include:
Dynamic Enemy Evolution: After defeating a creature, players must remain vigilant—some enemies absorb fallen foes, evolving into far more terrifying forms. "Don’t let your guard down after defeating them," warns the official description. "If a monster absorbs a fallen enemy, it will evolve into an even more nightmarish form."
Crafting and Scarcity: With limited resources, players must scavenge and craft ammo, medical supplies, and tools to survive. Every decision counts in a world where danger lurks around every corner.
Time-Travel Mechanics: The Traveler can navigate between timelines, altering the environment and uncovering lore tied to past failures and future tragedies. These shifts aren’t just narrative devices—they impact combat, puzzles, and enemy behavior.
Dead Space-Inspired Design: The gameplay and visual tone evoke the claustrophobic dread and brutal set-pieces of Dead Space, but with Bloober’s signature psychological horror and atmospheric storytelling.
We had the chance to play Cronos: The New Dawn in a recent hands-on preview—and the result was immediate awe. The game feels like a curated evolution of survival horror’s greatest hits, blending the tension of Resident Evil, the existential dread of Silent Hill, and the sci-fi body horror of Dead Space.
"It feels like Bloober Team has cherry-picked from the best of the genre and fashioned a survival horror beast of its own," we wrote in our preview. "From the creaking corridors to the grotesque enemy designs, every second drips with atmosphere."
The Switch 2 version, in particular, is a technical showcase—running at 4K, 60fps with ray-traced lighting and immersive haptics that make every footstep and scream feel personal.
The July 2025 Nintendo Direct also unveiled several other major titles, including new entries in beloved franchises and indie darlings. For a full rundown of all announcements, including Metroid Prime 4: Requiem, Tales of Arise: Rebirth, and Hollow Knight: Silksong, click here.
