• Hide Mode: The player to the dealer's right selects a card and places it face down on the table. This card determines the trump suit for that round.
• Cut Mode: If no trump suit is chosen initially, the game starts without one. The trump suit is then determined by the first player unable to follow the suit led, choosing any card to set the trump.

Once the trump suit is established, the highest card of that suit played in a trick wins the trick. If no trump cards are played, the highest card of the suit led wins. The winner of a trick leads the next one, and each trick won is kept in a face-down pile by the winning team.

A partnership that captures three or four of the tens wins the hand. Capturing all four tens is known as Mendicot, marking a significant victory.
