The GeForce RTX 4090, though a generation older than the new Blackwell 50 series GPUs, remains one of the most potent graphics cards available, outperforming the likes of the GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. The only GPU that surpasses it is the RTX 5090, which is notoriously difficult to find without a hefty price markup.
As the RTX 4090 has been discontinued, finding it has become increasingly challenging. However, Dell offers two prebuilt gaming PC models equipped with this powerful GPU at reasonable prices. The Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC starts at $2,999.99, while the Dell Tower Plus gaming PC starts at $2,849.99. These are among the best prices for an RTX 4090-equipped system, especially since other manufacturers like Lenovo and HP no longer offer RTX 4090 prebuilt PCs.
Alienware Aurora R16 RTX 4090 Gaming PC
$2,999.99 at Alienware
This Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC comes with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The CPU can be upgraded to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, but for gaming, the default Intel Core Ultra 7 265F, with its 5.3GHz max turbo frequency and 20 cores, is more than sufficient. The system is cooled by a 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler and powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

The Dell Tower Plus gaming PC features similar specs, including an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. For an additional $100, upgrading to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K CPU is recommended as it also upgrades the cooling to a more robust "advanced air cooling" system, rated for a 125W TDP. The entire system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.
How does the RTX 4090 stack up against current cards?
The RTX 4090 is the most powerful RTX 40 series GPU on the market. Only the RTX 5090, with a $2,000 MSRP, outperforms it. The RTX 4090 can handle every game at 4K resolution with over 60 fps, even with max settings and ray tracing enabled, particularly when DLSS is supported. The only challenge for the RTX 4090, as well as other GPUs, is path tracing, which is typically used for benchmarks or social media showcases. For most gamers, the RTX 4090's performance is more than adequate.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke
"The RTX 4090 may be large and pricey, but its performance is unparalleled. It's the only card of its generation currently available, making it a standout against older models. With its impressive hardware and DLSS 3 AI technology, the $1,599 price tag seems justified for the exceptional frame rates it delivers."

Dell also offers the Alienware Aurora R16 with the new GeForce RTX 5080 GPU for $2,499.99. In our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE review, Jackie noted, "For those with recent high-end graphics cards, the RTX 5080 might not offer significant improvements over the RTX 4080. However, it does enhance gaming experiences with DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation. For gamers upgrading from older cards, the RTX 5080 provides a substantial performance boost, especially with Nvidia’s AI enhancements."
