Black Myth: Wukong, the action RPG based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, is finally launching on Xbox Series X/S on August 20, 2025—exactly one year after its debut on PS5 and PC.
Xbox announced the news on Twitter/X, stating, "You are the Destined One. Black Myth: Wukong arrives August 20. Pre-orders start June 18!"

Black Myth: Wukong has become a blockbuster, selling more than 25 million copies as of January 31, 2025. Still, its absence on Xbox Series X/S has been conspicuous, especially since it was never officially marketed as an exclusive title.
Some reports suggested the delay resulted from a Sony exclusivity agreement rather than technical limitations, but Game Science CEO Fen Ji reportedly pointed to challenges with the Xbox Series S.
“The only thing missing is the Xbox,” he said, according to a machine translation, “which somehow feels a bit off, but that shared 10GB of memory—without years of optimization expertise—is really tough to handle.”
Now, it seems those hurdles have been cleared, and Xbox gamers will soon be able to add the title to their collections.
In our Black Myth: Wukong review, we noted, "Despite some frustrating technical hitches, Black Myth: Wukong is an outstanding action game with stellar combat, thrilling boss encounters, intriguing secrets, and a breathtaking world."
Beyond technical challenges, Black Myth: Wukong has also faced scrutiny over the developer's past issues with sexism, which we reported on back in 2023.
