Civilization 7 Dev Firaxis Says 'There's Hope for Gandhi, Yet'

Civilization 7's launch has left many veteran players questioning the absence of a familiar face: Mahatma Gandhi. A staple of the series since its inception in 1991, Gandhi's omission is notable. However, according to Civilization 7 lead designer Ed Beach, Gandhi's absence is not permanent.

Beach confirmed that Gandhi's inclusion is planned, likely as downloadable content (DLC). He explained that Firaxis has a long-term roadmap for adding civilizations, and some, like Gandhi, are better suited for later releases. This strategy is consistent with past iterations; both Mongolia and Persia were initially absent from the base games of Civilization V and VI. The decision to omit certain iconic leaders allows for the introduction of fresh, exciting civilizations in the initial release.

While the immediate future may involve addressing the mixed user reviews on Steam – stemming from UI concerns, limited map variety, and missing features – Beach’s statement offers reassurance to Gandhi enthusiasts. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick also expressed confidence in Civilization 7's long-term success, believing the core fanbase will embrace the game with continued play.
