Get ready, Guardians—Bungie has just announced an exciting lineup for Destiny 2 under the banner of the "Year of Prophecy." This year promises four significant content updates, including two paid expansions and two major updates available to all players.
Kicking things off is Rite of the Nine, a free update that offers a fresh take on dungeon diving. Available to all players, it refreshes familiar dungeons like Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep with unique twists. You'll reconnect with Orin and enjoy updated dungeon weapons, making this a must-try for both seasoned and new players.
Next, on July 15, comes the paid expansion Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate. This expansion marks the beginning of a multiyear saga focused on the enigmatic Nine, who predate the Traveler. The story will spotlight new ally Lodi and Warlock Vanguard Ikora. Set on the new destination, Kepler, inspired by Destiny 2's dungeons, players can expect puzzle-solving challenges and deep exploration. New enemies, weapons, gear, and destination-specific abilities await.
Alongside The Edge of Fate, Bungie will introduce "major core game innovations" on July 15. These include revamped armor and gear systems to enhance buildcrafting and a new activity selection screen called the Portal. This screen will let players easily choose between Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the new Solo Ops, designed for solo players seeking quick, self-contained gameplay. Additionally, 50 new modifiers will allow for deeper gameplay customization and curated activity rotations will keep the game fresh.

On September 9, the Ash & Iron major update will be released, followed by the second expansion, Renegades, on December 2. Finally, the Shadow & Order major update rolls out on March 3.
Destiny 2: Renegades draws inspiration from the legendary Star Wars universe, blending Destiny’s unique storytelling and gameplay with iconic sci-fi themes and elements.
This news comes as a relief to many players following Bungie's layoffs in July 2024, which affected 220 staff members, representing 17% of its workforce, following another 100 layoffs less than a year prior.
While Destiny 2 keeps fans engaged, Bungie is also working on the reboot of Marathon, revealed in May 2023. IGN's hands-on preview of Marathon's alpha state was promising, indicating it could satisfy the Bungie PvP itch when it launches on PC and consoles in September.
