How challenging will it be to purchase a Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. during launch and through 2025? Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser assures the company anticipates having sufficient inventory to satisfy demand "through the holiday season."
In an IGN interview discussing the new Nintendo San Francisco store opening, Bowser revealed the company has prepared a steady production pipeline despite observing intense consumer interest in Switch 2 preorders. The next-generation console launches June 5.
"[President] Mr. Furukawa recently confirmed our production forecast of 15 million Switch 2 units alongside 4.5 million original Switch consoles for this fiscal year," Bowser explained. "This projection aligns with Nintendo Switch's successful first-year rollout. For U.S. distribution, we're confident our manufacturing and logistics will meet consumer demand throughout the holidays."
The executive acknowledged strong early adoption signals through preorder metrics but emphasized Nintendo's commitment to maintaining consistent retail availability.
This reassurance comes after turbulent preorder experiences following Nintendo's April 24 ordering launch. Despite maintaining the $449.99 MSRP after tariff-related delays, inventory moved rapidly. Nintendo has cautioned My Nintendo Store customers about potential delayed deliveries.
Bowser's statements suggest preorder holders will eventually receive units, though shoppers may want to consult IGN's comprehensive preorder guide for tracking options.
Recent tariff discussions have raised questions about potential price adjustments. When pressed about maintaining the $450 base price long-term, Bowser offered cautious optimism:
"By announcing the $449 standalone and $499 Mario Kart World bundle pricing post-tariff news, we established our commitment. Market conditions remain fluid, but we're dedicated to keeping Switch 2 accessible within economic realities."
