Dragon Quest 3 Remake: Unlocking the Secrets of the Yellow Orb

The Yellow Orb in Dragon Quest 3 Remake is notoriously tricky to obtain. While the process isn't overly complex, finding the starting point can be a challenge. This guide will walk you through acquiring this elusive orb.

The Yellow Orb is located in Merchantburg, a town initially shown only as "???" on the map. Its name is determined by the merchant you hire and leave to establish the settlement. This means the town's name could be Christopherburg, or something else entirely, depending on your chosen merchant's name. You must nurture the town's growth to obtain the Yellow Orb.

Locating Merchantburg (???)

After delivering Black Pepper to the King of Portoga and acquiring your ship, Merchantburg's quest marker will appear in the northeast corner of the world map. Sail west from the coast to reach the eastern edge of the eastern continent.

Optimal Timing for Merchantburg

While the orb collection order is flexible, establishing Merchantburg early is highly recommended. The town requires significant time to develop before yielding the Yellow Orb. Starting early allows you to gather other orbs concurrently.

Acquiring the Yellow Orb

Establishing Merchantburg:

First, visit PALS in Aliahan and recruit a new merchant. Proceed directly to Merchantburg to minimize combat encounters with your expanded party.

Upon arrival, enter the sole building. Speak to the old man who desires to establish a town but needs a merchant. Assign your newly hired merchant to this task. They will leave your party, and the town's name will be revealed.

Merchantburg's Growth and Your Return:

Following the suggested path to obtain the Purple Orb (Orochi's Lair) and the Blue Orb (Gaia's Navel), you'll receive notifications urging you to revisit Merchantburg. The town undergoes five growth stages, each prompting a return visit. By the fourth visit, a large club will be built. Remember to haggle with the security guard outside the club who attempts to overcharge you.

Your merchant's success will eventually lead to discontent among the townsfolk, signaling the end of their reign, but also the nearing availability of the Yellow Orb.

The Final Visit and Orb Discovery:

Visit Merchantburg at night during your fifth visit. You'll find the merchant missing from their home. The townsfolk have revolted, imprisoning the merchant in the house south of their former residence.

Speak to the imprisoned merchant to learn the Yellow Orb's location. Return to the merchant's house. A quest marker will appear behind the sofa. Interact with the ground to uncover the Yellow Orb.

For most players, the Yellow Orb will likely be the penultimate orb acquired. Other orbs are located at: Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
