Square Enix has unveiled the next evolution of the Dragon Quest franchise: Dragon Quest Smash/Grow, coming to iOS and Android in 2026. Following yesterday's announcement, we now have our first glimpse of the game through a new teaser trailer, alongside details about the first closed beta test scheduled for this October.

Dragon Quest Smash/Grow departs from the series' classic turn-based combat, introducing a momentum-driven roguelite action experience. Players will battle through hordes of monsters, growing stronger along the way, before finishing off foes with dramatic Coup de Grâce techniques that series veterans will immediately recognize.

Each run offers unique unpredictability through the Blessings system, which presents randomized skills like HP restoration and attack boosts, allowing you to adapt your strategy on the fly. As with any quality roguelite, no two playthroughs will ever feel identical.

This isn't Dragon Quest's first foray into mobile RPGs, but it represents a fresh start. With the recent shutdown of Dragon Quest of the Stars, a clear gap has emerged for a flagship phone experience. Smash/Grow appears ready to fill that role, merging the fast-paced thrill of a roguelite with the beloved charm and epic scale of the main series.
