EA's Skate Adds Microtransactions Pre-Launch

EA has introduced microtransactions to its upcoming free-to-play Skate revival during its latest alpha test, ahead of an anticipated release date announcement. As reported by Insider Gaming, Full Circle, the developer behind the project, has integrated a virtual currency called San Van Bucks into the closed alpha test. This currency can be purchased with real money and used to acquire cosmetic items within the game. The move suggests that Full Circle is keen on testing and refining Skate's in-game purchase system, with the aim of ensuring a seamless and enjoyable shopping experience for players. "Your feedback will be greatly appreciated in providing a great experience at Early Access launch," Full Circle stated, emphasizing the importance of player input during this testing phase.

It's important for testers to note that all progress made during the alpha test will be reset before Skate enters early access. However, any purchases made with San Van Bucks will be refunded in the same currency, ready for use when early access begins. This approach allows Full Circle to gather essential feedback on the microtransaction system while ensuring players retain the value of their purchases.

Skate's early access launch is slated for 2025, marking a significant milestone since the game's announcement at EA Play in 2020. At that time, Skate was described as being in the "very early" stages of development. Since then, Full Circle has maintained an active dialogue with the community through closed playtests and regular updates via its "The Board Room" video series. In 2022, the developer officially confirmed the game's title as 'skate.' and announced its free-to-play model, set to be available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC platforms.
