The much-anticipated Imperium Update for the classic strategy game, ROME: Total War, has arrived on Android, courtesy of Feral Interactive. If you've been enjoying this epic game since its Android debut in 2018, you're in for a treat with a slew of gameplay enhancements, refined controls, and quality-of-life improvements. Fans of the standalone expansions, Barbarian Invasion and Alexander, won't be left behind, as they are slated to receive the same update next week.
The Imperium Update integrates some of the most successful features from Feral's newer mobile titles, such as Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE. Players can now choose from three new control options: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection, enhancing unit command and battle precision. Say goodbye to dragging paths manually; now you can simply tap and hold to move your armies, agents, or fleets.
With Positioning Mode, you can fine-tune unit placements by tapping and holding. The Group Grid feature simplifies managing unit groups with an easy-to-use collapsible selection menu. Melee Mode allows ranged units to seamlessly transition to close combat when the situation demands it.
A significant addition is the Command Slowdown feature, which automatically slows the game down during complex order issuance, giving you more control over your strategies. Additionally, for the first time, keyboard and mouse support has been introduced for Android and iPad users, enhancing the gaming experience further.
The minimap has also been revamped to resemble the one in MEDIEVAL II, featuring smoother zooming and navigation. A new reset button allows for quick returns to the default view, making it easier to keep track of the battlefield.
The Imperium Update is currently available on the Google Play Store for ROME: Total War on Android. Make sure to install it and experience the improvements firsthand. Keep an eye out for the updates coming next week for Barbarian Invasion and Alexander, and don't miss out on the enhanced gameplay they will offer.
