Formovie Episode One: Is It Projection Heaven?

At Droid Gamers, we're always excited to test out new gadgets, and the Formovie Episode One projector is a fresh addition to our lineup. This device caught our attention because it promises to bring the thrill of mobile gaming onto a larger screen, and at a budget-friendly price, no less. While projectors often come with a hefty price tag, the Episode One aims to break that mold, and we believe it largely succeeds, despite a few hiccups.

Right out of the box, you'll find the projector, a remote (without batteries), a power cable, and a manual. The Episode One feels sturdy but doesn't have the substantial weight of its more expensive counterparts. This lighter build, however, translates to excellent portability; weighing in at just three pounds, it's easy to take on the go.

The port selection is limited, with just one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and an audio jack. While this might be a drawback for some, it's a reasonable trade-off at this price point, and should suffice for most users.

Performance-wise, the Episode One holds its own. With 150 ISO lumens, it's not the brightest projector on the market, and it did struggle in direct sunlight during our tests. However, it performed admirably in darker environments, which is to be expected. Every movie, TV show, and streamed game we tested displayed clearly, though the optimal viewing distance was at least 10 feet away.

The built-in speaker offers a passable sound quality, but it does sound a bit tinny. For the best audio experience, we recommend pairing the Episode One with an external speaker if possible.

The user interface of the Episode One is one of its strengths. Its straightforward design makes it easier to use compared to some of the pricier projectors we've tried. Everything is simple to set up and navigate, making it a great option for those new to projectors.

In conclusion, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. It might not excel in any one area, but it offers a solid all-around performance that should meet the needs of most casual users. If you're considering purchasing an Episode One, act quickly: until May 27th, you'll receive a $15/€15 Netflix gift card with your purchase. Click here to check it out.
