The long-running GTA 6 mapping project has shifted into high gear following the release of Trailer 2, with Garza, a key member of the project, telling IGN that "it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The GTA 6 Mapping Discord, home to over 370 members and soon to hit 400, is abuzz as enthusiasts dive into the new trailer to extract and analyze every detail.
Garza, who oversees the Discord server, shared with IGN, "It’s an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year. We have so much new content to work on and we’re really just getting started." The project, which began in the wake of the massive September 2022 leaks, aims to construct the most accurate possible map of GTA 6. Until Trailer 2's release, their work relied on those leaks and the first trailer from December 2023.
The latest iteration of the GTA 6 map, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, is now outdated. The wealth of information from Trailer 2 is propelling the project towards a more detailed and accurate map. DuPz0r shared the previous version on Twitter:

Rockstar's latest trailer not only confirmed plot details and characters but also released 70 new GTA 6 screenshots, along with information and images of explorable locations in the state of Leonida, which mirrors Florida. Confirmed locations include Vice City, GTA 6's version of Miami, the tropical Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and the national landmark Mount Kalaga, situated near the state’s northern border.
The volunteers are meticulously combing through the trailer to pinpoint the exact locations of everything shown, striving to match the fictional spaces with their real-life counterparts. This effort will contribute to a more comprehensive map, with DuPz0r planning to release an updated version that fans eagerly await as a preview of what GTA 6 might offer upon its release in May 2026.
Should Rockstar release more GTA 6 assets before the game's launch, such as gameplay footage, the volunteers will continue their work. Only when GTA 6 is released can they truly gauge the accuracy of their map against the actual game.

However, the project faces potential legal challenges from Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company. Earlier this year, a modder who created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 was forced to stop after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two. The mod was based on the GTA 6 mapping project.
When asked last year about potential action from Take-Two, Garza expressed "some mild concern." He told IGN, "This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community. However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."
