James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, is known for collaborating with familiar faces in his projects. Now, an actress from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy has confirmed discussions with Gunn about a role in the upcoming DC Universe.

The DCU aims to create a successful shared universe, learning from the inconsistencies and studio interference that plagued the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU). While the DCEU had its successes, many films underperformed, and a cohesive narrative often eluded viewers. Warner Bros. hopes Gunn, renowned for his work on the Guardians of the Galaxy films, can steer the DCU towards greater success, potentially bringing some familiar actors along.

According to Agents of Fandom, Pom Klementieff, who played Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy, has revealed conversations with Gunn about a specific DCU role. While attending San Antonio's Superhero Comic Con, Klementieff, when asked about a potential DCU character, playfully responded, "Do you really think I’m going to answer this question?” She confirmed discussions with Gunn, stating he has a particular character in mind for her.

Klementieff expressed her desire to continue working with Gunn: "I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that. Yes, we’ve been talking about one specific character, but I can’t talk about that right now." She also fondly reminisced about her time in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, highlighting her journey from aspiring X-Men actress to a key member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 concluding with the team's disbanding, Klementieff remains open to reprising her role as Mantis, depending on the project's specifics. "I'm always open to it, I love the character. I'm sure the fans would love to see it, but I don't know. It depends on the project."

Klementieff's comments corroborate previous statements. Gunn himself confirmed these conversations on Threads, clarifying that she is not cast in the upcoming Superman film, but that they have discussed a different, undisclosed DCU role. Neither Gunn nor Klementieff has revealed details about this mystery character.

Gunn's tendency to work with familiar actors, including his brother and wife, has drawn criticism from some. However, this practice is not uncommon in filmmaking, and the ultimate success of any casting decision will depend on the actor's performance. Ultimately, whether Klementieff's casting is a positive development remains to be seen.

The Guardians of the Galaxy films are streaming on Disney Plus.
