In Avowed, deciding whether to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas is a pivotal choice that can lead to dramatically different outcomes, each with its own set of consequences. This guide will explore the various paths you can take and their effects on your gameplay experience.

What Happens If You Don’t Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

If you choose not to give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis, be prepared for a confrontation. The dialogue with Sargamis hints at the dire consequences of refusal, and true to his word, he will engage you in combat. Treated as an optional boss in Avowed, Sargamis is a formidable opponent early in the game. He comes equipped with a large health bar and summons two spirit creatures to aid him, though they typically focus on attacking Kai rather than you. Sargamis uses swift thrusting attacks with his sword, allowing him to close distances quickly. However, he is susceptible to being frozen, making ice spells a strategic choice to slow him down.

Upon defeating Sargamis, you will be rewarded with the Last Light of Day mace. This unique-class weapon not only restores three percent of your health upon defeating an enemy but also adds a 10 percent bonus to fire damage on your attacks.

What Happens If You Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

If you decide to give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis, you face a few subsequent choices. Initially, you can change your mind, prompting Sargamis to attack you. Alternatively, you can persuade him to enter the statue himself, which results in his death and allows you to claim the Last Light of Day mace. Another option is to offer yourself to the statue. If you stand in the designated circle and wait for Sargamis to activate the machine, you will die but earn the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Reloading Avowed will bring you back to the point before entering the circle. If you choose to leave the circle when instructed to stand still, Sargamis will become enraged and attack you.

How To Finish Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis in Avowed

For a more peaceful resolution, you can attempt to convince Sargamis that his plan is doomed to fail. This requires an Intellect stat of 4 or higher. If you need to adjust your stats, refer to our Avowed respec guide. Place the Splinter in the statue before speaking with Sargamis, activate the machine, and then discuss the failed outcome with him. Persuade him that his plan won't work, and he will abandon it.

To initiate this path, consider choosing the Court Augur or Arcane Scholar background, though other backgrounds may offer similar options. During your conversation with Sargamis, guide him towards understanding that Eothas is gone, but avoid the intellect option about live soul transfer. After Sargamis leaves, you can decide whether to let the voice use the statue or destroy it yourself. Then, find Sargamis in his quarters to conclude this part of the Dawntreader quest, earning more experience than if you had fought him or handed over the Splinter.

In Avowed, the decision regarding the Splinter of Eothas significantly impacts your journey. Whether you choose to fight, sacrifice, or negotiate, each path offers unique rewards and challenges. For those new to Avowed, our beginner's guide provides essential tips to enhance your gameplay experience.
