The anticipation for Hollow Knight: Silksong has reached new heights following Microsoft's recent mention of the game in an official Xbox post. This excitement has been further amplified by recent backend changes to the game's Steam listing, which suggest that a re-reveal and potential release could be imminent.

On March 24, as noted across various online platforms including social media, Reddit, and Discord, the Steam metadata for Hollow Knight: Silksong underwent significant updates. According to SteamDB, these changes included an opt-in for the game on GeForce Now, Nvidia's video game streaming service, modifications to game assets, and a crucial update to the legal lines on the Steam store page. The copyright for Hollow Knight is now listed as Team Cherry 2025, rather than 2019, hinting at a potential release in 2025.

These developments come at a time when fans are eagerly awaiting Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct, scheduled for April 2. The timing suggests that an announcement related to Hollow Knight: Silksong could be just around the corner, possibly aligning with the upcoming Nintendo event.

It's been six years since the announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong, with the development journey marked by sporadic updates and long periods of silence from Team Cherry. The excitement peaked in January when cryptic social media activity from one of the developers sparked widespread speculation about a potential re-reveal during the Switch 2 Direct, and possibly a launch exclusive for Nintendo's next-generation console.

Originally announced to launch on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch, Hollow Knight: Silksong has also become one of the most anticipated titles for Xbox Game Pass, following Microsoft's deal to bring the game to its subscription service on day one.

In June 2022, Microsoft included Hollow Knight: Silksong in its Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, promising that all showcased titles would be playable within the next 12 months. This led to expectations that the game would be released within that timeframe. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay past the first half of 2023, with more details to follow as the game approached its release date. Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry's marketing and publishing lead, stated, "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

As the sequel to the critically acclaimed Hollow Knight from 2017, Silksong carries immense expectations. It remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam. In our review of Hollow Knight, IGN praised the game, stating, "The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it’s worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight."
