The upcoming Monopoly movie, brought to us by Lionsgate, has secured John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein as its writers. These talented individuals are also the writers and directors behind the successful Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
Today's announcement revealed that Daley and Goldstein will be crafting the screenplay for this film, which is based on Hasbro's iconic board game. Margot Robbie, through her production company LuckyChap, will be producing the film, adding a significant boost to its prospects.
Daley and Goldstein have been busy in the industry, having recently written and directed their original film, Mayday. They have also contributed their writing talents to other high-profile projects such as The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The idea of a Monopoly movie has been circulating for quite some time. As early as 2007, there were reports that Ridley Scott was interested in directing the film. In 2011, Scott enlisted Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to pen the script, but that project ultimately didn't come to fruition. Fast forward to 2015, when Lionsgate and Hasbro joined forces on a new iteration with a script by Andrew Niccol. By 2019, it was announced that Kevin Hart and director Tim Story would be involved, yet none of these efforts materialized into a final product.
However, Lionsgate's recent acquisition of eOne from Hasbro has reignited the project. With fresh talent like Daley and Goldstein at the helm, there's renewed hope that this version of the Monopoly film will successfully "pass Go" and reach audiences around the world.
