While this remains a rumor, the situation appears concerning.

Upon its launch in 2022, MultiVersus enjoyed tremendous success, reaching a peak of 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the game's online presence plummeted by 99% shortly after, leading Warner Bros. Games to close the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite a return in May 2024 with updates, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.

The fifth season of MultiVersus is set to begin in early February, potentially serving as the developers' final opportunity to rekindle player interest. This season represents a relaunch of sorts, though the developers have chosen to categorize the 2022 release as a "beta." Initially, the game was warmly received, but the announcement in March 2023 of a temporary shutdown in June of that year left many players, particularly those who had purchased the premium edition to support the developers, feeling disappointed.
