Netflix made a major impact at Anime Expo 2025 with a series of exciting announcements, but perhaps the most surprising reveal was that half of its entire subscriber base enjoys anime.
The streaming giant briefly mentioned these figures in a blog post published during the Anime Expo weekend. Alongside highlighting upcoming shows like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, Sakamoto Days, and Dan Da Dan, Netflix shared that "more than half of Netflix’s members" watch anime in some form. While this isn't a detailed analysis, it’s certainly an impressive statistic.
Although the company’s current subscriber count isn't publicly available, we know from its January announcement of a price increase that it had surpassed the 300 million member mark. This suggests that approximately 150 million Netflix users are watching both new and classic anime series as the platform continues to expand its investment in this popular genre.
These figures are consistent with a recent Dentsu study (reported by Variety) that surveyed 8,600 consumers across 10 countries, finding that 48% of Netflix subscribers are anime enthusiasts. These are strong numbers for any streaming service; the same study noted that 32% of Disney+ viewers and 29% of Amazon Prime Video subscribers also watch anime. Additionally, Dentsu discovered that 31% of global consumers follow at least one anime series weekly, with Netflix dominating the U.S. market where 63% of its audience engages with anime content.
Over the past decade, Netflix has steadily increased its investment in anime. Video game adaptations have been especially successful for the platform, with standout series including Castlevania, Devil May Cry, The Witcher, and Cyberpunk 2077. Original productions like Beastars, Devilman Crybaby, and Pluto have also been released during this period, catering to a wide range of viewer preferences.
At Anime Expo 2025, Netflix affirmed its commitment to expanding its anime catalog. Dan Da Dan Season 2 is currently releasing new episodes weekly, with additional content from Leviathan, Sakamoto Days, and My Melody & Kuromi scheduled to debut before the end of the month. Subscribers also received confirmation that more Record of Ragnarok episodes will premiere this December, followed by Beastars Final Season Part 2 in 2026 and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 at a later date.
