Team Ninja has rolled out a significant update for Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, now at version 1.0.7.0, enhancing the gaming experience with new features like New Game Plus, Photo Mode, and more. This patch, promised earlier in the year to address fan feedback, is now accessible on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
With the introduction of New Game Plus, players can embark on a new adventure at any previously conquered difficulty level, retaining their weapons and Ninpo, albeit reset to Level 1. This feature does not allow jumping directly into higher difficulties through New Game Plus.
A notable quality of life enhancement is the option to hide the projectile weapon carried on the player's back. This can be toggled in the Options menu under Game Settings with the "Show Projectile Weapon" option.
In terms of balance adjustments, Team Ninja has tweaked enemy health and numbers across different chapters. Specifically, they've reduced the Hit Points of enemies in Chapter 8, "City of the Fallen Goddess," and Chapter 11, "Night in the City of Water." Conversely, they've increased the number of enemies in Chapter 13, "The Temple of Sacrifice," and Chapter 14, "A Tempered Gravestone," and boosted the damage of certain attacks by Ayane.
The update also addresses several bugs, fixing issues with high-powered PCs, game-breaking glitches in certain chapters, and other minor problems. The comprehensive patch notes are detailed below.
Ninja Gaiden Black 2, an enhanced version of the acclaimed action game developed with Unreal Engine 5, was unexpectedly released during the January Xbox Developer Direct. This version boasts improved graphics, new playable characters, and enhanced battle support.
IGN's review of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black awarded it an 8/10, stating: "Fewer enemies with more health may mean Ninja Gaiden 2 Black isn't quite the definitive version, but it's a definite and gorgeous improvement over its Sigma 2 release, and still an excellent action game all around."
