Nioh 3 made a surprise appearance during PlayStation's June 2025 State of Play event! Discover key details about the upcoming release and its temporary demo offering.

Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have formally unveiled Nioh 3, the newest chapter in their celebrated dark fantasy action-RPG franchise. The reveal trailer provided fans with their first look at the game while confirming an early 2026 launch window. More excitingly, PlayStation 5 users gained instant access to a limited demo immediately following the announcement.
This playable preview will remain available from June 4 through June 18. According to Team Ninja's official PlayStation Blog statement: "This demo offers players an exclusive preview of our years-long development process. We welcome your valuable feedback through our official website survey to help polish what we aim to make the ultimate Nioh experience!"
The franchise's passionate fanbase has eagerly awaited new content since Nioh 2's 2020 release, which followed the inaugural 2017 title. Team Ninja seeks to redefine the action-RPG genre once again. Fumihiko Yasuda, Team Ninja's general producer, expressed enthusiasm for welcoming both series veterans and newcomers to experience "the rewarding challenge of overcoming repeated failures."

According to official information, Nioh 3 unfolds during Japan's turbulent Sengoku era. Players assume the role of Tokugawa Ieyasu (birth name Takechiyo), portrayed recalling his youth in the announcement trailer.
As the eventual architect of Japan's longest-lasting shogunate, Takechiyo battles supernatural threats while navigating historical conflicts. While plot specifics remain scarce, Yasuda teased, "His motivations for combating yokai will be revealed later."
The game introduces expansive open environments contrasting with previous installment's segmented areas. Players will encounter dangerous yokai, investigate mysterious settlements, and test their skills in a mysterious challenge called The Crucible.

Despite portraying historical figures, the demo includes the acclaimed character creation system from Nioh 2, allowing players to craft unique protagonists.
New to the series is real-time combat style switching between Samurai and Ninja approaches. The Samurai mode emphasizes traditional close-quarters combat with enhancements like Arts Proficiency and Deflect maneuvers.
The Ninja style focuses on evasion and aerial tactics, utilizing abilities such as Mist (leaving attacking clones) and Evade (precise dodging) to outflank opponents.

Additional information will emerge during development, but curious players can experience forthcoming features through the current demo. Stay tuned for future Nioh 3 updates!
