The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has encountered unexpected issues following a surprise update released today, but Bethesda is actively working on a solution.
PC gamers were taken aback when Virtuos, the developer behind the remastered version, rolled out an unannounced update. Without accompanying patch notes or a clear explanation of its purpose, many players continued their gameplay as usual. However, it soon became evident that this update caused significant problems rather than offering improvements.
Yoooo why would @virtuosgames push an update to Oblivion Remastered that removes all upscaling right before the game's first weekend?!!?
No DLSS
No FSRRIP playable performance....

A Reddit user highlighted the issue, stating, "Can't change the upscaling methods anymore. It's set to 'off' and while the arrows are clickable, nothing happens. So I closed the game, disabled fluid motion in the NVidia app (was testing something before the patch came) and started the game again. Loading times for my save are long again and still can't change upscaling settings lol. Now I am stuck with 40-60 fps in high settings with a 5800X3D and a 5080. Nice patch :D"
While some players have not experienced significant performance changes, others are facing challenges with reduced frame rates. A common complaint is the complete disablement of upscaling settings, which has left many fans frustrated just before the highly anticipated Oblivion Remastered’s first weekend.
Bethesda has responded to the uproar with an official statement on their support page. The post clarified that the update was intended for "a few backend tweaks and nothing directly impacting gameplay." However, it appears that those who purchased Oblivion Remastered through the Microsoft Store are the most affected, particularly with issues related to upscaling and anti-aliasing options.
Bethesda further explained, "Any graphic settings adjusted prior to the Microsoft Store hotfix are still enabled and function normally. However, you will temporarily be unable to adjust those settings due to the issue with the settings UI. The team is taking a look and working out a resolution, and we will share more info as soon as we can."
For now, the timeline for a fix remains uncertain. Meanwhile, players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S consoles can continue enjoying the game without any reported issues.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S earlier this week. For more insights, you can explore why Bethesda and Virtuos aimed to maintain the jank of the original game and why some players still love it all these years later.
