The latest update, v0.5.0, for Palworld brings a host of exciting new features and improvements that enhance the gameplay experience across all platforms. One of the standout additions is crossplay, allowing players on different platforms to play together seamlessly. This update also introduces the Global Palbox, enabling players to store Pal data and transfer Pals between different worlds, making it easier to manage your collection.
A significant enhancement is the new Dimensional Pal Storage system, which boasts a capacity ten times larger than the standard Palbox. This storage can be accessed by guild members but also offers private settings for personal use, providing flexibility for players. In addition, the update includes a new cosmetic armor system, allowing players to change their character's appearance without affecting armor stats through the Antique Dresser. This means you can now enjoy a transmog feature to customize your look freely.
Palworld v0.5.0 also adds a photo mode, accessible via the Pal Command Wheel, allowing players to capture stunning in-game screenshots by hiding the UI and adjusting the camera. For those interested in crafting, a new Drafting Table enables players to combine low-rarity blueprints to create higher-rarity ones, adding a strategic layer to base-building. Moreover, dedicated servers for Mac users are now available, ensuring a smoother experience for those playing on Apple devices.
Several specification adjustments have been made to improve gameplay. For instance, buildings can now be placed even if they overlap with a Pal, and when connecting foundations or roofs, they automatically align in the same direction. An Ice Pal assigned to the Flea Market will slow down item decay, and torches have been added to random dungeon entrances to improve visibility. Players can now sit on chairs and cushions, enhancing the immersive feel of the game.
Balance adjustments in this update include changes to elemental chest rewards, ensuring Dog Coins always drop with a chance of work suitability books. The EXP gained from defeating the Attack Chopper has been increased, and Flamethrowers now deal more DPS. Adjustments to default attacks for Electric and Dark Pals, along with the addition of work suitability and animations for some human NPCs, further refine the game's mechanics.
The UI has seen several enhancements, including the categorization of favorites into three groups, continuous value adjustment in the Pal Soul Enhancement UI, and a new sorting option for the Pal Box by Work Suitability Level. Players can now enjoy larger text sizes and fullscreen mode, making the interface more user-friendly.
New achievements have been added to keep players engaged and motivated. Additionally, numerous bug fixes have been implemented, addressing issues like players being launched into space while climbing, flying Pals causing issues over water, and various server and NPC-related problems.
Developer Pocketpair is also working on adding dedicated servers for the PlayStation 5 version, promising to release them in the future. Since its early access launch in January 2024, Palworld has attracted an impressive 32 million players. The studio has outlined an extensive content roadmap for 2025, including an "ending scenario" and more new content for the popular creature-catching survival game.
Palworld launched on Steam for $30 and on Xbox and PC Game Pass, breaking sales and concurrent player records. Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, noted the overwhelming success led to profits the studio couldn't handle initially. Capitalizing on this success, Pocketpair signed a deal with Sony to form Palworld Entertainment, aimed at expanding the IP and bringing the game to PS5.
However, looming over this success is a lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, alleging that Palworld has infringed on multiple patent rights. Pocketpair has responded by identifying the patents in question and tweaking how players summon Pals in the game. The studio remains committed to defending its position in court against these allegations.
