The Pokemon Company has expressed gratitude to fans for their patience amidst the ongoing shortages of the Scarlet and Violet — Prismatic Evolutions set, marking the first time the company has publicly addressed the issue. This acknowledgment comes after weeks of fan complaints on social media about the difficulty in obtaining the new Pokemon TCG expansion.
Prismatic Evolutions, announced in early November 2024 with pre-orders opening shortly after, is set for an international release on January 17, 2025. The set aims to kick off the new year on a high note for Pokemon TCG enthusiasts. However, like many new expansions, it has faced global shortages, including in the United States.
In response to the situation, a spokesperson from The Pokemon Company told IGN, "We understand this inconvenience can be disappointing for fans, and we are actively working to print more of the impacted Pokemon TCG products as quickly as possible and at maximum capacity to address this." The company attributes the shortages to "high demand" but did not elaborate further on the causes.
The company is currently producing reprints of the Prismatic Evolutions set, which are expected to reach licensed distributors soon, though no specific timeline was provided. While some fans and social media users have pointed to scalpers as the reason for the shortages, The Pokemon Company has not confirmed this, sticking to their statement about high demand.
In addition to the reprints, The Pokemon Company announced that new Prismatic Evolutions products will be available in the coming months. These were initially mentioned during the set's announcement in November 2024. Upcoming products include:
Fans eager to try out the new cards can do so by participating in the Battle Pass of the Pokemon TCG Live mobile game, which will begin awarding Prismatic Evolutions cards starting January 16, 2025.
