Samsung's latest SSD, the Samsung 990 Evo Plus PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe solid state drive, is currently on sale. You can grab the 2TB model for just $129.99, or if you're looking for more storage, the 4TB model is an even better deal at $249.99. These prices are $40 to $70 less than the Samsung 990 Pro, and most gamers won't notice any difference in performance.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is an outstanding choice for both your gaming PC and PlayStation 5 console. It surpasses Sony's minimum speed requirements for the PS5, with sequential read speeds up to 7,250MB/s and write speeds up to 6,300MB/s. While it's faster than the non-Pro 990 Evo, it doesn't quite match the 990 Pro's speed. The key difference is that the 990 Evo Plus is a DRAM-less drive. For PS5 performance, this makes no difference. For gaming PCs, it supports HMB (host memory buffer), which compensates for the lack of DRAM by using a negligible amount of system RAM. Gamers will not notice any performance difference between the two.
The Samsung 990 Evo Plus does not come with a preinstalled heatsink. However, its new single-sided design is power-efficient and generates less heat than older SSDs. This means you likely won't need a heatsink, and it should work perfectly in a PS5 without thermal throttling. For added peace of mind, you could install a heatsink, though it would add an extra $7 to your cost.
