This season will consist of seven episodes, and to mark the occasion, HBO has released new character posters featuring Joel, Ellie, and Abby.

Picking up five years after the events of the first season, The Last of Us Season 2 will follow Joel and Ellie as they continue their journey, now living with Joel's brother Tommy in a commune in Montana. The new season will delve into the narrative of The Last of Us Part 2, the second game in the series, which should be familiar to fans of the franchise.

Joining Pedro Pascal, who reprises his role as Joel, and Bella Ramsey, returning as Ellie, are several new cast members. Kaitlyn Dever will portray Abby, Isabela Merced will play Dina, Young Mazino will take on the role of Jesse, Ariela Barer will appear as Mel, and Tati Gabrielle will play Nora. The first season of The Last of Us was a critical and commercial success for HBO. Created by Craig Mazin of Chernobyl fame and Neil Druckmann, head of Naughty Dog, the series garnered numerous Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and received five Primetime Emmy nominations, including nods for Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Outstanding Director, and Outstanding Writing.

Given the success of the first season, HBO is eager to continue the saga. Francesca Orsi from HBO has hinted that the series may run for a total of four seasons, indicating that this upcoming season will not cover the entirety of The Last of Us Part 2.
