Fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong can breathe a sigh of relief as the game's developer, Team Cherry, has confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel will still be released on the original Nintendo Switch, alongside the upcoming Switch 2. This reassurance comes after the game made a brief appearance at the Nintendo Direct for Switch 2 on April 2, leading to speculation that it might skip the current-gen console.
Originally announced in 2019 for PC and the original Switch, Silksong later expanded its platform reach to include PlayStation and Xbox consoles. However, the recent Nintendo Direct for Switch 2 sparked concerns among fans that the game might bypass the current-gen Switch. Addressing these concerns, Team Cherry's Marketing and PR Handler, Matthew Griffin, took to Twitter (X) on April 8 to clarify that Silksong will indeed be available on both the original Switch and the Switch 2.
While there are no official details on how the versions for the two consoles will differ, it's expected that the Switch 2 version will benefit from higher resolution and other enhanced features of the new hardware.
Following the Switch 2 Direct, new images of Silksong surfaced on Nintendo Japan's official website. These images, while showcasing familiar locations from the 2019 reveal, exhibit noticeable graphical improvements. Despite Team Cherry's usual reticence about the game's details, the recent activity, including the brief appearance at the Direct and the updated images, hints that a release date announcement might be on the horizon. Additionally, recent changes to Silksong's Steam Metadata have further fueled fans' hopes for a release in the near future.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. According to the Switch 2 Direct, the game is expected to launch sometime this year. To stay informed about the latest developments, be sure to check out our article below!
