On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to announce that Sonic Rumble will hit the global market on May 8, 2025. Accompanying this announcement was a fresh trailer that offered fans a glimpse into the game's dynamic gameplay.

Sonic Rumble marks the first multiplayer party game in the Sonic series, allowing up to 32 players to engage in competitive fun across varied levels and gameplay modes. Sega describes the game as an experience where "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world crafted by the notorious Dr. Eggman, tackling challenging obstacle courses and perilous arenas!"

Given that Sonic Rumble is free-to-play, there have been concerns about potential pay-to-win elements. However, Makoto Tase, the director of Sonic Rumble, addressed these concerns during an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September. He reassured fans by stating, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to just buy what you want quickly for a small, fixed amount, rather than a gacha system that gives you a certain probability of obtaining items."

Sonic Rumble Reaches Over 900k Pre-Registrations

Following the announcement of the release date, Sega disclosed that Sonic Rumble has now surpassed 900,000 pre-registrations. With each milestone achieved, players are rewarded with in-game bonuses to enhance their gaming experience:

While Sonic Rumble has yet to reach the final pre-registration milestone, the target number remains undisclosed. Speculation suggests it could be set at 1 million or higher, similar to other games with comparable campaigns. With several weeks until the game's launch on May 8, 2025, there's still plenty of time for the community to rally and hit this target.
