Hello discerning readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 28th, 2024. Yesterday's presentation was packed with exciting announcements, wasn't it? Several games even received surprise releases! This typically quiet Wednesday is anything but, and that's excellent news. We've got news updates, a review of today's eShop additions, and our usual sales lists (both new and expiring). Let's dive in!
The Partner/Indie World Showcase Delivered Abundant Offerings
Combining two smaller showcases was a smart move, resulting in a flurry of announcements. I can't cover everything here, but highlights include surprise releases (detailed in the New Releases section), Capcom Fighting Collection 2, the Suikoden I & II remasters, Yakuza Kiwami, Tetris Forever, MySims, Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, new Atelier and Rune Factory titles, and much more. I recommend watching the video; even a quick skim will reveal many fantastic games for diverse preferences.
A third Castlevania compilation emerged from the Direct's surprise releases. This collection features the three Nintendo DS titles: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. It also includes the infamous arcade game, Haunted Castle, alongside an M2-developed remake of Haunted Castle—a significant improvement. M2's expertise shines through, offering superb emulation and desirable features. An incredible value for the price.
This Wario Land-inspired, fast-paced platformer makes its Switch debut as another surprise Direct release. Players navigate five massive floors of the Pizza Tower to destroy it and save their restaurant. Fans of Wario's handheld adventures will appreciate this title. Even those without strong Wario feelings but who enjoy platformers should consider it. We aim to review this game soon.
The surprise releases continue. It's Wednesday; without these, we'd have limited content. Presenting Goat Simulator 3. You're familiar with Goat Simulator's mechanics. I can't confirm its Switch performance, knowing that more powerful consoles experience occasional struggles. Proceed with caution. However, even poor performance might align with the game's chaotic nature. The choice is yours. Expect silly goats, silly antics, and an open world—your Switch might not appreciate it.
It's a common observation, but I believe Electronic Arts missed a significant opportunity by not bringing Popcap's games to Switch. Perhaps a collection? Alas, it didn't happen. For Peggle enthusiasts, I highly recommend Peglin. Available on mobile for some time, it's equally enjoyable on Switch. It's essentially Peggle combined with a turn-based RPG roguelite. A review will follow shortly.
Kairosoft's approach to refreshing its simulation game formula? Licensing. Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story is a typical Kairosoft shop simulator featuring characters from the popular Doraemon manga and anime. The license is well-integrated, and you might even spot characters from the manga artist's other works. Charming.
More Pico Park for existing fans. Up to eight players can participate via local or online multiplayer. The "more the merrier" principle applies here. Solve puzzle stages requiring teamwork and strategic thinking. Suitable for those who enjoyed the first game, though it lacks sufficient innovation to attract newcomers. And that's acceptable.
An affordable rhythm game featuring Kamitsubaki Studio's music. Hit the notes, follow the story, and enjoy the tunes. Not the most sophisticated, but adequately priced.
A Sokoban-style crate-pushing puzzle game featuring a penguin. One hundred levels. You know if you're interested.
More quirky physics-based puzzles—over three hundred this time. Utilize your character's abilities and drawing mechanics to solve puzzles. Up to four players can join locally or online.
