The game, which initially debuted exclusively in Japan on February 24, 2021, for iOS, Android, and PC, introduces a unique narrative where legendary racehorses are reborn as "horse girls" or "Umamusume." These characters blend the appearance of a typical high school girl with the ears, tails, endurance, and speed of horses. At Tokyo's Tracen Academy, they train to achieve their dreams of becoming renowned racers and idols.

According to its Steam page, Umamusume: Pretty Derby offers an immersive sports life simulation with an in-depth training system and top-of-the-line 3D graphics. Players can scout and train over 20 different Uma Musumes, compete in races, and showcase stunning performances through a gacha system.
