Xbox has been making significant strides in the mobile gaming arena, emphasizing its commitment to making Xbox an identity beyond just a platform. This is evident in their latest collaboration with game peripheral manufacturer Backbone, introducing the new mobile-focused controller, the Backbone One: Xbox Edition. Priced at a recommended retail price of $109.99, this controller will be available directly from the manufacturer and through Best Buy Drops.

The Backbone One: Xbox Edition stands out with its familiar Xbox branding, featuring the iconic XYBA buttons and other classic Xbox elements. It sports a sleek, semi-translucent green design that adds a touch of flair to the device. Currently, the controller is compatible with USB-C devices, catering primarily to Android users, although future compatibility with iOS devices might be on the horizon if EU legislation mandating USB-C ports comes into effect.

The aesthetic appeal of the Xbox Edition Backbone is undeniable, especially for fans of the transparent plastic casing. While I've personally moved on from Xbox to PlayStation and PC, I can appreciate the allure this controller might hold for avid GamePass users and others deeply invested in Xbox's ecosystem. However, the price point of over $100 might be a hurdle for some potential buyers. Although significantly less than the cost of an actual Xbox console, which typically exceeds $400, the prominent branding and premium pricing could be a sticking point.

Nonetheless, Xbox's push into mobile gaming is undeniable and impressive. If you're curious about their mobile offerings, take a look at our list of the top 10 best Xbox Game Pass releases for Android to see the breadth of their commitment to this platform.
