Bandai Namco has made the surprising announcement to shut down PAC-MAN Mobile, which seems particularly ironic as the legendary icon marks its 45th anniversary this year. This version of the game, which was launched over a decade ago and was previously known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, has been a beloved part of mobile gaming culture.
The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. In-app purchases were discontinued as of April 1st, but players can continue enjoying the game until the final day. Many fans have voiced their disappointment, suggesting that an offline version would have been a preferable alternative, allowing them to keep playing while still generating some revenue for Bandai Namco.
PAC-MAN Mobile offered more than just the classic arcade experience. It included an 8-bit arcade mode, a Story Mode with numerous original mazes, and an Adventure Mode featuring limited-time themed events where players could earn exclusive skins. Additionally, the Tournament Mode provided weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels, and the game boasted a variety of skins for PAC-MAN, the ghosts, the joystick, and more.
The decision to shut down the game likely stems from ongoing issues and bugs that have accumulated over the years, diminishing the overall gaming experience. The initial launch on Android was met with excitement as players competed for high scores and leaderboard rankings, making it a fun and engaging experience in its early days.
If you're eager to play PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before its shutdown, you can download it from the Google Play Store. Don't miss out on this final opportunity to enjoy the game.
