One Battle After Another arrives on HBO Max on December 19, Warner Bros. has confirmed.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s action-comedy thriller, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, lands on the streaming platform just under three months after its theatrical debut. The film will premiere on HBO linear television the following day, December 20 at 8 p.m. ET.
One Battle After Another leads the Golden Globes this year with nine nominations, including Best Picture – Musical or Comedy, and features Golden Globe-nominated performers Teyana Taylor and Chase Infiniti. It’s widely anticipated as a strong contender for Best Picture at the Oscars.
The movie is scheduled to be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K UHD on January 20, 2026. Additionally, fans can look forward to a limited-edition steelbook release in 4K UHD this spring, featuring exclusive special content curated and produced by Anderson himself.
The streaming debut follows One Battle After Another’s $204 million global box office performance ($71 million domestic, $133 million international)—making it the highest-grossing film of Paul Thomas Anderson’s career, surpassing There Will Be Blood’s $76.4 million total from 2007. However, reports indicate the film needed roughly $300 million to break even theatrically.
Still, the film is generating strong awards momentum, and its streaming debut is expected to elevate HBO Max’s profile. IGN’s One Battle After Another review awarded it a perfect 10/10, stating: "Paul Thomas Anderson and Leonardo DiCaprio finally join forces, delivering a 10/10 masterpiece."
