Developers behind The Witcher 4 have alerted players about fraudulent beta test invitations circulating online. CD Projekt Red has clarified its position regarding both the scam attempts and their choice to feature Ciri as the game's protagonist.
CD Projekt Red has officially warned players about fraudulent beta test invitations for The Witcher 4. On April 16, the studio addressed the community through The Witcher's official Twitter/X account regarding these scams.
The statement explained: "We're actively working to remove these fraudulent messages. If you receive any suspicious invites or encounter such claims, please report them through your email provider or social media platform's reporting tools."
The developers confirmed all legitimate beta test announcements would first appear on official The Witcher channels.

CD Projekt Red initially unveiled The Witcher 4 during The Game Awards 2024. The announcement trailer revealed Ciri as the protagonist, marking a significant departure from previous Witcher titles where Geralt served as the main character.
In subsequent interviews with VGC, Narrative Director Phillipp Weber discussed fan reactions to this change. "We completely understand the attachment to Geralt," Weber stated, "but we're committed to demonstrating how Ciri brings fresh narrative potential to the series. This creative decision wasn't made lightly – we've been developing this direction for years."

Executive Producer Małgorzata Mitręga acknowledged the enthusiasm from both supportive and skeptical fans: "We appreciate all passionate responses to our announcement. Ultimately, the game itself will be our most compelling response to any concerns."
According to the development team, The Witcher 4 represents their most ambitious project to date, introducing new regions and creatures. While confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms, the studio has not announced a specific release window. For the latest updates about the game, follow our ongoing coverage.
