The highly anticipated Narnia reboot, helmed by the acclaimed writer and director Greta Gerwig of the Barbie movie fame, has added the talented Carey Mulligan to its impressive ensemble cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan joins the ranks alongside former James Bond actor Daniel Craig, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, and the legendary Meryl Streep.
Gerwig will once again take on the dual roles of writer and director for this fresh interpretation of C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia. The upcoming film will adapt the prequel novel, The Magician's Nephew, set before the iconic events of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Carey Mulligan, renowned for her numerous accolades including Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe nominations, is slated to portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the young protagonist Digory. Daniel Craig will embody the titular magician and Digory's uncle, while Emma Mackey steps into the shoes of a youthful version of Narnia's notorious White Witch. Meryl Streep will lend her voice to the majestic Aslan, the series' revered talking lion.
This isn't the first time Narnia has graced the silver screen. A trilogy released between 2005 and 2010 brought to life the initial three books of C.S. Lewis' series: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Those films starred Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson as the voice of Aslan.
Gerwig's latest venture into Narnia marks her first significant project following the unexpected success of the 2023 Barbie movie, which garnered eight Academy Award nominations and clinched the award for Best Original Song. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is scheduled for release in 2026, promising to captivate audiences with a new chapter in the timeless saga.
