Undertale creator Toby Fox has shared a new update regarding the testing progress for Chapters 3 and 4 of his upcoming game, Deltarune. Read on to learn more about the console testing updates and what players can expect moving forward.
Toby Fox, the creator behind both Deltarune and Undertale, recently updated fans via his official Bluesky account, revealing that console testing for the next chapters is still ongoing. While there’s still much work ahead, the development process appears to be progressing smoothly.
In his post, Fox stated: “Still console testing. There are fewer bugs, but there's a lot to go through. (Haven't even tested PS5 yet)” He also revealed that the team is currently working on enabling save data transfers from the demo version—Chapters 1 and 2—to the full release of the game on console platforms. This functionality became possible only after recently acquiring the necessary technology. “I hope it works!” he added humorously.
With the beta testing phase looking promising, fans may not have to wait too much longer before getting their hands on the full experience. As previously confirmed by Fox on Bluesky, Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 are expected to launch sometime in 2025.
Despite being deep into testing, Fox continues to engage fans with smaller updates and playful commentary. Known for his clever use of internet culture and self-deprecating humor, he recently shared an amusing anecdote:
“I showed my family and friends a minigame I've been working on for DR (Deltarune) and they all described it as ‘a cry for help because your game is not out’” Fox posted on social media, jokingly noting that his family meant it in a positive way—unlike his friend who “laughed at me for about 10 minutes straight.”
Some fans speculated that since Fox had mentioned back in 2024 that the content for Chapters 3 and 4 was already complete, this new mini-game could potentially be tied to the future Chapter 5. The Deltarune series is planned to include a total of seven chapters before reaching its conclusion.
Fox further added: “Same friend who played Chapter 3 like over a year ago also told me ‘I miss Tenna’ and I was like ‘man that's something no one in the world has ever said huh.’” This remark confirmed that the previously unseen character “Tenna” will make an appearance in the upcoming Chapter 3. Tenna was first referenced during the Spamton Sweepstakes campaign held on the Deltarune website in September 2022, which supported the Child’s Play charity.
Deltarune serves as both a spiritual successor and parallel title to the 2015 indie hit Undertale. It retains many of the original game’s signature mechanics while introducing a fresh storyline and characters. Players follow along with Kris, Susie, and Ralsei as they embark on a journey to restore balance to the world.
