"GTA 5 Enhanced Edition Receives Worst User Reviews on Steam"

Rockstar's newly released Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced version, which debuted in early March, has not been well-received by the Steam community, currently holding a 'mixed' user review rating. Out of 19,772 reviews, only 54% are positive, a stark contrast to the original GTA 5 on Steam, which boasts a 'very positive' rating but is now unlisted at Rockstar's request. Interestingly, GTA 5 Enhanced has the lowest user review score among all GTA titles on Steam, with Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition coming in second with 66% positive reviews.

The Enhanced version offers a free upgrade for PC players, including features such as Hao’s Special Works vehicles, animal encounters, and the ability to purchase a GTA+ Membership, which were previously exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S versions of GTA Online. It also promises enhanced graphics and quicker load times. Players can seamlessly migrate their progress from the original game's Story Mode and Online mode to this updated version.

However, the upgrade process has hit a snag with account migration issues plaguing many players. These problems are frequently cited in the 'most helpful' negative reviews. One frustrated user reported being unable to migrate their account, stating, “The GTA Online profile associated with this Rockstar Games account is not eligible for migration at this time,” and expressed reluctance to abandon their progress. Another review echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the arbitrary nature of account migration restrictions and the lack of effective support from Rockstar.

Despite these challenges, GTA 5 Enhanced continues to attract a large player base on Steam, reaching a peak concurrent player count of 187,059 since its launch. The issues have raised concerns among PC gamers about the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6, particularly as it is slated for a fall 2025 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, with no immediate plans for a PC version. A former Rockstar developer suggested in December 2023 that PC gamers should give the studio the "benefit of the doubt" regarding the delayed PC launch.

In related news, Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, is currently embroiled in legal action against the online marketplace PlayerAuctions, accusing it of selling unauthorized GTA 5 content. Additionally, Rockstar has acquired Video Games Deluxe, the developer behind Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, and rebranded it as Rockstar Australia.
