Killer Instinct Gold Joins Nintendo Switch Online Library

Killer Instinct Gold has been freshly added to the Nintendo Switch Online library, marking another exciting addition for Nintendo 64 enthusiasts. This game is a port of the iconic arcade fighter Killer Instinct 2 and joins its predecessor, Killer Instinct, in the expansive catalog of retro titles available to subscribers of the Online Expansion Pack.

Originally released in 1996, Killer Instinct Gold was crafted by the renowned British studio Rare, which was a key second-party developer for Nintendo at the time. Rare's portfolio from that era includes other beloved titles such as Donkey Kong Country, GoldenEye 007, and Perfect Dark. With Killer Instinct Gold, players can choose from a roster of 10 formidable fighters and engage in various game modes, boasting "hundreds of thousands of moves and killer Combos at your fingertips."

It's worth noting that both Rare and the Killer Instinct franchise are now under the ownership of Microsoft, making Killer Instinct Gold an Xbox Game Studios title available on the Switch. Since the release of the Xbox One launch title Killer Instinct in 2013, there has been no official word on a new sequel to the series.

View 11 ImagesNintendo Switch Online is a subscription-based service designed to enhance the gaming experience on the Nintendo Switch. It offers online multiplayer capabilities, allowing players to connect and play with friends, as well as access to a rich collection of classic Nintendo games from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, and soon, with the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, the new GameCube libraries. New subscribers can try the service with a free seven-day trial.

Preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 commenced at the end of April, with the console priced at $449.99. The high demand led to swift sell-outs, prompting Nintendo to issue a warning to U.S. customers who preordered through the My Nintendo Store, stating that delivery on the release date could not be guaranteed. However, Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, expressed confidence to IGN that the company will be able to meet consumer demand through the holiday season.
