Silent Hill f has become the first installment in the Silent Hill series to receive an 18+ age rating in Japan.
As shown at the start of the Japanese reveal trailer last night, the game has been classified as Mature (US), PEGI 18 (Europe), and CERO:Z (Japan).
While ratings may still change during development, Automaton reports that previous Japanese-developed Silent Hill titles (Silent Hill through Silent Hill: The Room) all received CERO:C ratings (15+), while international installments generally fell under CERO:C or CERO:D (17+).
Interestingly, even Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 Remake maintains a CERO:C rating in Japan despite its Mature (17+) classification in Western markets.
Konami's latest Silent Hill Transmission focused exclusively on Silent Hill f, marking the franchise's first new mainline entry in 13 years.
Originally announced in 2022, this psychological horror game transports players to 1960s Japan, following teenager Shimizu Hinako as she navigates intense societal pressures. The narrative comes from Ryukishi07, acclaimed creator of the When They Cry series.

The trailer depicts Hinako in increasingly distressed states, her school uniform torn and bloodied. While primarily cinematic, it offers glimpses of the game's unsettling world, including grotesque creatures and what appears to be a floral nightmare version of the classic Otherworld - replacing rust and decay with blood-red blossoms.
Konami has not announced a release date for Silent Hill f, nor did they provide updates on No Code's Silent Hill: Townfall project.
