Minecraft Movie's Funniest Scene Inspired by The NeverEnding Story

Minor spoilers ahead for A Minecraft Movie.

The creative minds behind A Minecraft Movie shared with IGN that one of the film's most amusing scenes drew inspiration from The NeverEnding Story. In a memorable moment, Jack Black's character, Steve, finds himself in a precarious situation, needing to ride on Jason Momoa's character, Garrett, due to a shortage of Elytra wings, which are only available for Garrett and Sebastian Hansen's character, Henry. This scene turns into a hilarious display of physical comedy as Steve clings to Garrett to avoid a perilous fall.

Play"We definitely wanted a Falkor moment from *The Neverending Story* that was both majestic and beautiful, but also one that goes south pretty quickly," explained director Jared Hess.

"It was incredibly funny between takes," added producer Torfi Frans Ólafsson. "Jack was perched on top of Jason in this intricate rig, and he started singing The NeverEnding Story theme, treating Jason like he was riding Falkor."

This scene is particularly amusing because Jack Black previously played Slip in The NeverEnding Story 3. For Jason Momoa, this was a chance to contribute significantly to the scene's development.

"I had a hand in writing that scene, and Jack was all in," Momoa said with a chuckle. "This was post-Top Gun: Maverick, so I thought it would be fun to incorporate a stunt where I could hit the brakes and have Jack slide down, then switcheroo on him. We were laughing about this idea in the hotel, and it made it into the movie—it's phenomenal."

"There were different versions of that scene, and I'm not sure if the more adult version made the final cut," Jack Black mentioned. "But we opted for a family-friendly approach in the end!"

"Let my hips guide you! You can't just ride me like I'm majestic," Momoa exclaimed. "I was dying, man. I was dying."
