Fans of the iconic children's show, Sesame Street, will be delighted to know that their beloved journeys to the vibrant street are far from over. Since its inception in 1969, the series has been a cornerstone of educational television, and now, following the conclusion of its deal with HBO and Max at the end of 2024, Sesame Street is set to expand its reach by streaming on Netflix and PBS.

Starting in 2025, viewers worldwide will have access to new episodes on Netflix, along with the extensive catalog of past episodes. Concurrently, new episodes will be available on the same day they air on PBS stations and PBS Kids platforms in the US, maintaining the show's longstanding relationship with public broadcasting. This move not only ensures continued accessibility but also embraces the digital era's demands.

In a strategic move, Netflix will also leverage this partnership to bolster its burgeoning gaming division. Subscribers will soon have the opportunity to engage with Sesame Street-themed video games through the Netflix app, using their mobile devices as controllers. This initiative extends to the spinoff series, Sesame Street Mecha Builders, promising interactive fun for young audiences.

The announcement of this exciting new deal was made on May 19 via Sesame Street's social media channels. "The support of Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting serve as a unique public-private partnership to enable Sesame Street to continue to help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder," stated the Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind the series.

As Sesame Street embarks on its 56th season, fans can anticipate some structural changes aimed at enhancing viewer engagement. Each episode will feature an 11-minute story at its core, drawing inspiration from successful character-driven children's shows like Bluey. Despite these changes, beloved segments such as Elmo's World and Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck will make a return, ensuring the show retains its charm and educational value.

Sesame Street first aired in November 1969 and joined the PBS network in the 1970s, quickly becoming a cultural landmark. In 2015, HBO and Max entered into a $35 million agreement to produce new episodes, a partnership that concluded at the end of 2024. Although HBO and Max cited a shift away from children's programming as the reason for not renewing the deal, they will continue to offer the Sesame Street library through 2027, albeit without new content production.
