Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay in Canada Due to Tariffs

Gamers worldwide let out a collective groan last week when the eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an uncertain "who knows when?" This delay was triggered by import tariffs introduced by President Trump, which sent financial markets into a tailspin. The ripple effects have now crossed into Canada, with Nintendo Canada confirming that preorders there are also postponed. So, if you were planning to secure a unit through a relative in Winnipeg, you're out of luck.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," Nintendo of Canada stated to the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

This echoes the statement Nintendo of America provided to IGN on April 4, though the Canadian version does not specifically mention the new tariffs.

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, as Nintendo assesses the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update the timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged.

While tomorrow was supposed to mark the start of preorders, there's still no indication of when eager fans can begin frantically refreshing their browsers and double-checking their credit card details. This leaves gamers in a state of uncertainty and worried about a potential price hike from the originally announced $449.99.

In other parts of the world, Nintendo Switch 2 preorders have already gone live in the UK, with smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths quickly selling out. Scalpers are already active on eBay, offering preorders for £500 ($639) or more, significantly higher than the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
