Razer Halts Sales of Gaming Laptop Due to Trump's Tariffs on PC Hardware

The import tariffs reinstated by U.S. President Trump are once again reverberating through the gaming industry, now directly affecting the availability of Razer’s Blade 16 gaming laptop in the United States.

Import tariffs act as taxes on goods brought into the country, and while companies can absorb these costs, they often pass them on to consumers—leading to higher prices for tech and gaming products. In some cases, the impact goes beyond pricing. The Razer Blade 16, which was listed for sale in the U.S. as recently as April 1, has now vanished from the company’s U.S. website, with no option to purchase.

As first reported by The Verge, while European customers can currently order the new gaming laptop (pending stock availability—currently out of stock in the UK), the U.S. site offers no such option. Instead, interested buyers are met with a "Notify Me" button for updates, with no pricing information displayed. Attempts to access the Buy Now page result in a 404 error, signaling a complete removal of the product listing.

Razer isn’t alone in this move. With tariffs targeting China and Taiwan—key manufacturing hubs for PC components—other tech companies are also feeling the pressure. Micron, a major memory manufacturer, has already warned of potential surcharges. Meanwhile, Framework has officially "temporarily paused" certain U.S. sales in response to the shifting trade landscape.

The ripple effects extend beyond PC hardware. Last week, Nintendo removed the pre-order date for the Switch 2 in the U.S., originally set for April 9, following market instability triggered by the renewed tariffs. Soon after, Nintendo Canada confirmed a similar delay, citing the same economic uncertainties.

These developments have sparked growing concern among fans and industry analysts alike. Many now fear that Nintendo may increase the Switch 2’s base price—already set at $450—further inflating costs for games and accessories, despite existing backlash over the console’s initial pricing unveiled earlier this year.
