Ryan Reynolds Explains Deadpool's Solo Stance Against Joining Avengers or X-Men

Ryan Reynolds has cast doubt on the likelihood of Deadpool joining either the Avengers or the X-Men, suggesting that such a move would signal the end of the character's journey. In a recent interview with Time, Reynolds stated, "If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or an X-Man, we're at the end. That's wish fulfillment, and you can't give him that." This comment comes on the heels of the massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine, where Deadpool's desire to join the Avengers was a central plot point, leading to speculation about his potential inclusion in next year's Avengers: Doomsday.

The cast reveal for Avengers: Doomsday last month featured a strong presence of veteran X-Men actors, including Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier/Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and James Marsden as Cyclops. This has led to speculation that Avengers: Doomsday might secretly be an Avengers vs. X-Men movie. Notably, Reynolds' name was absent from the list of confirmed stars, despite Channing Tatum, who played Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, being included.

While Reynolds is against a formal promotion of Deadpool to the Avengers or X-Men, he hinted at the possibility of a surprise cameo, citing the positive reception to Wesley Snipes' cameo as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. Reynolds also teased a new project, mentioning he is currently writing something that involves an "ensemble," but kept further details under wraps.

As for Avengers: Doomsday, little is known beyond the cast list. Anthony Mackie, reprising his role as Sam Wilson/Captain America, expressed optimism about the film, stating it would recapture the classic Marvel feeling. Other cast members like Paul Rudd as Ant-Man and Joseph Quinn as Human Torch have also shared their excitement. A leaked set photo has sparked further speculation among fans, with some believing it hints at trouble for the X-Men. Additionally, fans speculate that Oscar Isaac might appear as Moon Knight, following his withdrawal from a Star Wars event due to scheduling changes. Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige confirmed that the cast reveal was not exhaustive, stating, "We revealed many, not all," during a CinemaCon video call.
