April 1st has come and gone, marking another year of playful April Fool's Day antics in the video game world. One memorable jest came from the team behind Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Yesterday, the game's publisher, Focus Entertainment, announced a humorous new Chaplain class DLC, supposedly set to release on April 1st.

"In story mode, swap out Titus for The Chaplain and experience the game as a true Codex-compliant Ultramarine," Focus Entertainment declared, likely with a chuckle. This faux DLC would introduce a new playable character in the story mode, complete with an 'Enhanced Dialogue System.' Every five minutes, the Chaplain would remind his comrades that "the Codex Astartes does not support this action," and threaten to report them to the Inquisition.

The Chaplain would also feature a special ability called Discipline, which would report any deviations from the Codex Astartes, granting a 5% discipline bonus but reducing the brotherhood bonus by 20%. This playful twist on the Chaplain's role in the game resonated well with fans, given Chaplain Quintus's vigilant oversight of protagonist Titus during the Space Marine 2 campaign.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Chaplain Joke

Throughout the campaign, as Titus combats the Tyranids and the Thousand Sons traitor legion, it becomes evident that he possesses something extraordinary, which Chaplain Quintus scrutinizes with suspicion. Quintus's role is akin to an overzealous school prefect, ever-watchful for signs of heresy. This characterization has made the Chaplain a meme within the Space Marine community, a fact the April Fool's Day joke cleverly leveraged.

While the Chaplain's April Fool's gag was well-received, some fans expressed genuine interest in seeing a Chaplain class added to the game, albeit with a more serious warrior-priest role focused on venerating the Emperor. On the Space Marine subreddit, ResidentDrama9739 commented, "This would actually go hard if this was real," sparking enthusiastic discussions about how the Chaplain could be integrated into the game.

Interestingly, Space Marine 2 is set to receive a new class soon, though details remain undisclosed. Speculation leans towards the Apothecary, akin to a medic class, or the Librarian, promising warp-powered space magic. The Chaplain's playful spotlight in the April Fool's Day joke might not rule him out as a potential addition.

Amidst the buzz, development for Space Marine 3 has already begun, but Space Marine 2's year one roadmap continues with Patch 7 slated for mid-April. In the coming months, players can look forward to the new class, additional PvE operations, and new melee weapons, keeping the game's community engaged and excited.
