Joseph Kosinski is slated to direct a new Miami Vice movie for Universal, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Dan Gilroy, known for Nightcrawler, will pen the screenplay, building on an initial draft by Top Gun: Maverick writer Eric Warren Singer. Gilroy has recently been crafting episodes for the Star Wars series Andor, created by his brother, Tony.
Miami Vice, an iconic NBC police drama created by Anthony Yerkovich and produced by Michael Mann, aired for five seasons from 1984 to 1989. Starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as Miami detectives Crockett and Tubbs, the series is celebrated for redefining the visual and auditory style of television.
The show was previously adapted into a 2006 film by Michael Mann, featuring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell.
Details remain scarce, but it’s clear that Miami Vice won’t be Kosinski’s next project after his F1 film, set for release this June.
This timeline gives Kosinski ample opportunity to select the perfect Ferrari for the production.
