**Players & Cards**
Tong-its is designed for three players and uses a standard Anglo-American deck of 52 cards, excluding jokers. The card rankings are straightforward: Ace (1 point), 2-10 (face value), and Jack, Queen, King (10 points each).
**Objective**
The goal is to skillfully draw and discard cards to create sets and runs, while minimizing the points of unmatched cards in your hand. A run is three or more consecutive cards of the same suit, such as ♥4, ♥5, ♥6 or ♠8, ♠9, ♠10, ♠J (note that aces are low and cannot be part of a run with King and Queen). A set comprises three or four cards of the same rank, like ♥7, ♣7, ♦7. Remember, a card can only be part of one combination at a time.
**The Deal**
The initial dealer is chosen at random, with subsequent dealers being the winners of the previous rounds. Cards are dealt counterclockwise, with the dealer receiving thirteen cards and the other players twelve. The remaining cards form the stock, placed face down.
**The Play**
Each turn involves three main actions:
**Draw** - Start your turn by drawing a card from either the stock or the top of the discard pile. If you choose the discard pile, you must use the card to form a meld immediately.
**Exposing Melds** - You can choose to expose valid melds (sets or runs) from your hand onto the table. Melding is optional when drawing from the stock, but you must expose at least one meld to open your hand. A special move allows you to lay down a set of four face down if not drawn from the discard pile, keeping it secret and earning bonus points.
**Laying Off (Sapaw)** - Optionally, add cards to existing melds on the table, whether yours or another player's. There's no limit to how many cards you can lay off in a turn, and you don't need an opened hand to do so. Laying off on another player's meld can block them from drawing on their next turn.
**Discard** - Conclude your turn by discarding one card from your hand onto the discard pile, face up.
