Bethesda and id Software have unveiled a brand-new gameplay demo of *DOOM: The Dark Ages* during the Xbox showcase, finally confirming what insiders had previously hinted at — the game is set to launch on May 15. This latest entry in the iconic DOOM franchise ushers players into a brutal medieval setting, introducing fresh mechanics that distinguish it from its predecessor, *DOOM: Eternal*.

In *The Dark Ages*, players will step into the boots of a relentless "killing machine" who’s also built like a tank. Unlike previous entries where agility and fast-paced movement were key, this installment encourages a more grounded playstyle. You won’t find yourself parkouring across hellish landscapes or jumping endlessly — instead, you’ll be firmly planted on the ground, wielding an extensive arsenal designed to obliterate demonic hordes with raw power.

Among the new tools of destruction are a shield and mace, both perfectly suited for close-quarters combat and defense against enemy attacks. For the first time in the series, players can pilot a massive mech to turn the tide of battle — though not quite as large as the iconic Doom Slayer's usual foes, this war machine still brings serious firepower to the fight. And if that wasn't epic enough, players will also get the chance to ride a dragon during the campaign, adding a thrilling fantasy twist to the game’s intense action.

Another standout feature is the game’s adaptive difficulty system. Players can tailor their experience by adjusting parameters such as enemy damage output and overall challenge level. This customization ensures that both newcomers and seasoned veterans can enjoy the game at a difficulty that suits their playstyle.
